Roofers and Waterproofers Local 96 recently filedc a National Labor Relations Board complaintagainsrt Fridley-based Stock Roofing, a subsidiary of Skokie, Ill-based Tecta Americwa Corp. The union is complaininh that the contractor has been engaging in unsafe and unfairr labor practices atthe $5.3 million approved by the Minneapolis City Council in December and schedulecd for completion in July. “We understanxd that cities need tosave money,” said Locap 96 Business Manager Rob Snider. “But they also have a duty to protectg workers on publicly fundede projects by ensuringcontractors aren’t cuttingf corners.
” Stock Roofing's president and general manager couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. The unio n is complaining that work has taken place at night with insufficienrt lighting and impropersafety harnessing. Mike Minneapolis' community planning and economic development said he first heared ofthe union's complaints on April 20. He said the federap Occupational Safety and Health Administrationhad investigated, and there had been no negativr findings from the agency.
